The Department of Psychiatric Medicine is accepting applications for a full-time position to serve as Medical Director for inpatient service. This 52 bed service houses acute beds, combined MI-DD beds and combined Med-Psych beds in an 861 bed tertiary care hospital serving Eastern and coastal NC. In addition to administrative responsibilities, the successful candidate will also provide direct clinical care, assist in the teaching and clinical supervision of medical students, residents, and other health professional trainees; collaborate with other faculty members in conducting clinical research, with the opportunity to initiate projects if desired; and function as a University faculty member, performing such duties as appropriate to academic rank and position. Requirements include MD or equivalent degree, completion of accredited psychiatric residency training, prefer certification in Psychiatry, and 5 years of experience. Salary and academic rank commensurate with experience and academic background.

The medical center has an 80 bed behavioral health center for inpatient adults and adolescents.  Psych position #1 : Inpatient Emergency Dept (ED) with a one on and two off structure. The ED has 5 secured beds, all psyc trained nurses and dedicated security 24/7. They actually work 7a-11p then on call only 11p-7am. All adult, no children. New ED just 3 months old. Psych position #2 : Inpatient consults. Basically M-F 8-5 in the main Hosp. They could be asked to cover ED if not busy on the inpatient floors. Manual and dictated charting, scanned after dictated. Mostly adult, few adolescents. Psych position #3 : Outpatient clinic 8-5 M-Th and 8-12 Fri. Referrals only, has own med asst and private office. Charts are hybrid, meaning some old ones are still paper, all new one are scanning at discharge so data is able to be viewed online after that visit. Labs online. All adult. Open late spring to summer. A retirement need. All these are Hospital employed with comprehensive benefits. All are base pay about 170k plus range with 20-25% bonus ability on top. EASY to make full bonus based on volumes. All are being told that they could be called for cross coverage, adult patients, occurring about 1:6 to 1:8 weekends, only one weekend day not both Sat and Sun.
